TYPE OF COMMITTEE:
STANDING COMMITTEE as established by the Library Association of Alberta bylaws.
PURPOSE:
To provide continuing education activities and educational funding for current and potential members of the Library Association of Alberta.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administer the following annual LAA scholarships and continuing education grants:
- Education Endowment Fund Scholarship (students)
- Continuing Education Grants (members)
- Administer the following annual LAA Awards:
- President’s Award (in collaboration with LAA President)
- Punch Jackson Award of Excellence in Library Service
- Certificate of Thanks
- Honorary Membership
- Provide continuing education activities by:
- Presenting speaker series, workshops, or other learning opportunities organized by the LAA, its committees, or interest groups
- Collaborating with provincial and national organizations with similar interests
- Providing financial support to Alberta libraries and organizations through sponsorship of conferences and other continuing education activities
- Promote continuing education activities from other organizations that may be of interest to members
COMPOSITION AND APPOINTMENT:
- The Committee is chaired by a member of the LAA Board of Directors
- Members at large may volunteer
- Members serve a one-year term
- Members at large are recruited in August of each year
- While the 2nd Vice President is generally a member, committee membership may change annually
- Members of other province-wide associations with interests similar to those of the Association may, when appropriate, be invited to participate on LAA committees
