2025 Strategic Action Plan
The LAA has a new Strategic Action Plan!
- Support a sectoral conversation about the structure and sustainability of LAA
- Create Professional Development Opportunites with a focus on leadership
- Create a community of informed and skilled advocates
- Support self-organizing communities and networks
- Build an engagement-focused LAA Board
Over the past five years, the LAA has undergone major transitions as we navigated through the COVID-19 pandemic, the discontinuation of major operating grants, and the dissolution of the Alberta Library Conference. The LAA Board worked to maintain member services despite constraints, but our membership numbers have declined, creating an urgent need for the LAA to demonstrate value to the Alberta library community if we are to remain relevant and financially viable.
In 2024, the Board undertook a strategic engagement project with the goal of creating a transformative action plan for our association. We spoke to library leaders and influencers, other library associations and organizations, and library workers from across the province, from different library sectors, and working in urban and rural communities. We asked hard questions like:
- Would the library community lose anything if LAA didn’t exist anymore?
- What is the biggest challenge you, your organization and the library sector face now and in the next decade?
- What value can LAA offer the AB library community, if any?
