LAA memberships range from $20 to $150 depending on salary or library budget.
Get a Personal Membership
- Individuals
- Students who are enrolled full-time in a library science or library technician course or program. Membership in this category may be held for a maximum of two (2) years.
Get an Institutional Membership
- Institutional Members include libraries, educational and non-profit institutions.
- Commercial Members include vendors, suppliers and others who contract services to the library and information fields.
- Affiliate Members include library, information science and related associations.

NEW! Perkopolis
The LAA is pleased to offer access to Perkopolis for our members. Canadian-owned and operated, Perkopolis is a free program that provides exclusive discounts on entertainment, travel and shopping, gift card rewards, enhanced insurance benefits and other value-added perks for LAA members who opt-in.
To opt-in, simply register for a Perkopolis account with your email here. Once you have signed up, check your email for a link to complete your registration using your member ID code (LAA + your member ID, i.e. LAA12345). To find your member ID, simply log in to the LAA website and view your profile via the menu in the upper left corner. Below your name, you will see your member ID.

Professional Development Opportunities
LAA members are the first to know about the LAA’s learning opportunities, such as our free virtual Speaker Series. LAA members are also eligible to receive discounted member rates for paid events. The LAA also shares external professional development opportunities on our LinkedIn page and in newsletters to the membership.

LAA Forums
Join the conversation with LAA Forums. Members will have the unique opportunity to contribute to LAA Forums.
The LAA forums are a place where people can interact and discuss different topics relevant to the library industry. Please follow our Rules and Guidelines to ensure that the forums have productive conversations. These guidelines are enforced by the LAA’s Board of Directors in accordance with the Library Association of Alberta Code of Conduct policy.
Volunteer Opportunities
Give back to the library community! The LAA Board of Directors seeks volunteers to serve on various committees each fall. Committee work may include but is not limited to:
- Participating on the Advisory Committee, helping the LAA set goals and objectives for future years;
- Supporting the Continuing Education Committee in organizing learning events and/or distributing awards and scholarships;
- Taking part in advocacy work by volunteering with the Advocacy Committee

The Partnership Job Board
The Partnership Job Board is an LIS job board in Canada, hosted by the British Columbia Library Association (BCLA). Libraries and information organizations across the country use this site to recruit for vacant positions. Individuals can subscribe to the website to be notified of job postings.
Posting a vacancy on the Partnership Job Board costs $102 for non-members. However, libraries with LAA Institutional Memberships receive a discounted rate of $66 for each posting.
Networking
LAA members are invited to participate in social/networking events like coffee chats, focus groups, and join committees.
