A Single Canadian Library Challenges Database is here!

The Center for Free Expression (CFE) and the Canadian Federation of Library Associations (CFLA-FCAB) are excited to announce the successful integration of their previously separate Library Challenges Databases into a single, streamlined repository of challenges. Thanks to the hard work of staff and fellows at the CFE and the CFLA's Intellectual Freedom Committee, Canadian libraries and librarians have a one-stop shop for reporting library challenges and tracking challenges across the country.

What is the Canadian Library Challenges Database?
The CFE-CFLA/FCAB Canadian Library Challenges Database provides access to challenges libraries have faced to items in their collection, and to displays, programs, room usage, and computer access. For each challenge, the database provides information about the challenge, including (1) the item, the nature of the objection, and the requested remedy; (2) (where available) the record of the review of the challenged item undertaken by the library; (3) the library's response.

Who should enter information in the Database?
We encourage all libraries in Canada, including academic, public, school, health, government and other special libraries, to add their challenges to the database. The value of the database as a resource for librarians, for the library and archives community, and for researchers grows as the database increasingly provides a more complete record of challenges.

How can I report a challenge?
Reporting a challenge is simple. Simply fill in the CFE-CFLA Challenge Report Form available in English and French. The form can always be found on the Canadian Library Challenges Database Webpage for easy access.
